Macclesfield Ladies triumphed in this weeks’ match played at Tytherington High School. Building on last weeks’ success, the confidence within the squad is riding high. The emphasis is still on fun and enjoyment but how good it is to savour success aswell. The scoring opened early with a short corner awarded to Duffy. Heylings injected the ball to Barlow who’s strike was saved by a dive from their goalkeeper but Heylings had moved onto the penalty spot to flick the ball over the keeper’s head into the net. The second goal came shortly after when Julen-Seymour’s shot was deflected in by Barlow. Keeping up the pace and pressure, Macc dominated possession. After a few good moves in the midfield, Shallcross was ideally placed the left post to slot away the third goal. Comfortably ahead, perhaps Macc stepped off the pace a little thus allowing Northop Hall to score just before half time. It was expected that the opposition would start the second half with renewed determination and they did. They opened the scoring but Macc held their nerve and answered with a storming goal from man of the match Barlow. Barlow then completed her hat-trick as a scramble in front of the goal was finished with a flick over the goalie to make the score 5 – 2. Barlow’s achievement was recognised by her fellow team mates as she was also elected as the player’s player. The opponents were rewarded with a consolation goal by working round the back of the defence making the final score 5 – 3. Plenty of goals, great teamwork and good sportsmanship all made for a congenial atmosphere. Thanks to all our supporters and to our sponsor: S. D. Jackson. What did you do on Saturday? Anyone who is interested in playing hockey should come along to training on Tuesdays at Tytherington High School, 7 – 9 pm. All ages and abilities welcome |
