Junior Section

We have an active Junior Hockey Development Programme run by a number of enthusiastic and qualified Club members.

The objectives of the programme are to:

  • promote hockey to young people from Macclesfield aged from about 5-15 yrs.

  • provide quality hockey coaching by level 1/2 coaches, to enable all junior players to fulfil their potential.

  • develop junior players who will enable Macclesfield Hockey Club Men's and Ladies sections to maintain, and hopefully improve, their playing strength

  • maintain Macclesfield Hockey Club as a friendly club open to all irrespective of background

  • engender a spirit of fair play and sportsmanship in junior players

  • foster the social side of hockey among junior players

  • provide scope for personal development by involving junior players (15-18) in senior teams, junior team management and leadership courses.

In the recent past

From humble beginnings, Macclesfield HC Junior Section has grown to be one of the strongest in the NW region with over 150 active players. Numerous players have represented Cheshire, or are training with the County squads. In 2001, 4 girls were selected for North U15s with one going on to play for England U16s in 2002.

The U15 Girls and Colts won their respective Cheshire Leagues in 2002 and the U15 Girls reached the semi-finals of the prestigious National EHA Cup Competition. In 1999, 2000 and 2001, Macclesfield Borough girls and boys sides, with strong representation from Macclesfield HC, won the Cheshire Youth Games each year and in 2000, the Macclesfield sides represented Cheshire at the Millenium Youth Games in Southampton where the girls finished 5th out of 52 area teams.
